5 Common Mistakes of Travelers When Booking Flight Tickets

Not carefully checking information when buying tickets via the app, and incorrectly writing the order of first and middle names are common mistakes that cost tourists money and time.
Buying airline tickets today is very easy, but that makes many travelers not pay attention to the details, leading to trouble at the airport. Here are five common mistakes.
Lack of care when purchasing tickets through third-party applications
The development of e-commerce makes buying airline tickets through third-party apps (mobile applications) becoming popular. These applications often advertise and offer attractive promotions, tapping into the cheap psychology of tourists.
At first glance, airline tickets purchased through the app seem to be lower than “genuine” tickets. However, if you do not research carefully, tourists will suffer many disadvantages and even have to pay larger amounts than buying directly from the airlines. When there is a problem with the flight or there is some mistake during the process of buying and using tickets, it is difficult for airlines to help resolve the issue. At that time, tourists will have to contact the intermediary app operator themselves (many parties do not have offices in Vietnam), wasting a lot of time and effort, and even losing money unfairly.
Therefore, you should carefully research the ticket booking application before “downloading money”, and compare the price and policies of that application with the airline’s official website to get specific information.

Wrong order of last name, first name and middle name
Most travelers today buy airline tickets online, and each website or application has its own rules on how to fill in passenger names. Some websites do not have a Vietnamese interface, so visitors are easily confused when filling in the “surname”, “first name”, “middle name” boxes, and even mistakenly enter the gender section (“Mr. Miss”). As a result, visitors may have to pay an additional fee to change ticket information, if they have purchased a ticket that does not offer free information change fees.
When buying airline tickets, carefully check each item of information that needs to be filled in. If you purchase and then discover an error, you can immediately contact the airline for support, instead of going to the airport to resolve the problem.
Didn’t learn about luggage size regulations
Most air travelers understand the regulations on luggage weight but often do not pay attention to the regulations on size. When buying tickets, they only care about how many kilograms they can carry, but forget that many airlines also limit the length – width – height of each piece.
When going to the airport, many tourists “cry bad” because they don’t know how to “compact” their luggage. The weight is still within the allowable limit, but the bag is too long and wide and the airline refuses to transport it or requires it. Require additional baggage fees. Many airlines also equip electronic scales and tape measures for staff standing at the boarding gate. Passengers who have passed through the check-in gate still have to return to pay additional baggage fees due to oversized bags and suitcases.
Please read the luggage regulations carefully when buying airline tickets, including the type, size, and weight of items being brought along to avoid trouble at the airport.
Confusion about the number of packages brought on the plane
Few people pay attention to the regulations on the number of pieces of luggage they can bring when flying, because most people think that as long as they are not overweight, it is okay. However, this regulation varies widely between airlines. Many airlines have very strict regulations and will require customers to purchase additional baggage fees if they exceed the number of pieces.
For the same economy class, some airlines only allow one carry-on bag, while others allow one cabin-sized suitcase and one small bag. The airline allows checked baggage to be divided into many different packages, as long as the total weight does not exceed the weight of the ticket class. Some airlines only allow one suitcase to be checked in. Even though the suitcase is much lighter than the allowed weight, tourists are still not allowed to send any other suitcases.
When buying airline tickets, travelers should carefully read the number of carry-on and checked packages. If you really need to bring a lot of things, buy extra luggage before going to the airport because all fees at the airport will be higher.

Don’t care about hours or check-in times
Many tourists often ignore the accompanying information such as required time to be at the airport before departure time, time, and check-in method. Some airlines around the world only allow online check-in to reduce staff at the airport and also to save travelers’ time. Some places only allow check-in at the airport because that route does not support web check-in.
Tourists need to carefully read the check-in regulations to proactively follow them, because if there is a problem with check-in, you will likely miss your flight and will spend more money and time. Some tourists are even confused about flight times, especially for flights with transit, because they cannot distinguish which country or time zone they are in. Please note that the time on the flight ticket is always the time at the local airport, meaning that if you transit in a third country, the transit time is calculated according to that country’s time zone.
To avoid confusion, set multiple clocks on your phone, corresponding to the plane’s destinations, and time your journey accurately.
